Conference Information

Conference information we have is available below

For its 2007 annual conference, the OR Society is headed to Edinburgh – a city that certainly lives up to its reputation as one of the most beautiful cities in Britain. This historic city is one of the world’s most vibrant and cosmopolitan places and one of Europe's major tourist destinations.

The three-day conference programme contained a mixture of plenary sessions given by keynote speakers (Mark Elder from Simul8 and Ajaz Ahmed, a leading entrepreneur) and parallel streams, covering all aspects of OR. In addition there was a comprehensive social programme.

The conference was held at the University of Edinburgh where the delegates’ bedrooms in Chancellors Court were newly constructed in 2003. Many of the sessions were held in St Leonard’s Pollock Halls of Residence St Leonard's Hall which, until World War II was a school for girls called St Trinnean's. This Baronial style building, with its pepper-pot turrets and a tower, is reputed to be the inspiration for the St Trinian's School in the novels of Ronald Searle and the building was used in the ‘comedy’ films of the 1950s and 1960s. Fortunately, school uniform is no longer obligatory for conference delegates.
